# A Prayer Tracker for New Muslims: What Helps When You've Just Taken Shahada

> Salah Flow is a free, ad-free iPhone prayer tracker made by two reverts. What a new Muslim needs from a tracker, what ours does and doesn't do, and other options.

If you're a new Muslim looking for an app to keep track of your five daily prayers, Salah Flow was made with you in mind. It is a free prayer tracker for iPhone and iPad, with no ads, no paywalls and no premium tier, built by Rene and Nieves, a husband and wife who are both reverts.

We're biased, and happily so: we made the app we needed in our own first months, and we think it's the best tracker a new Muslim can have. This page explains why, what a tracker can and can't do for you, where Salah Flow falls short, and what else is worth a look.

## Why we built it

We found Islam from opposite corners of the world. Rene is a Slovak who once felt lost in the noise of this dunya and found peace when he discovered the truth of Islam. Nieves was born in Spain to Chinese immigrants, and was moved by the warmth of the Muslim community and the beauty of prayer.

The apps we tried in our own early days felt too busy: cluttered screens, endless features, and no real sense of where we stood with our prayers. We wanted something calm that showed us our salah journey, so we built it.

## What a tracker can do for a new Muslim

A tracker won't teach you how to pray. For that, a teacher at your local mosque, a revert circle or a trusted friend is worth more than any app. What a tracker can do is quieter:

- **Tell you when each prayer is due.** Prayer times move through the year and depend on where you live. An app that works them out from your location takes one worry away.
- **Show you how you're actually doing.** In the first months it's easy to feel you're failing. Seeing your week filled in, even partly, tells a truer story.
- **Let you be honest without guilt.** Some days a prayer will be late. A tracker that lets you record it as late, rather than only "done" or "missed", keeps the record honest and the door open.
- **Stay out of the way.** You're taking in a lot at once. An app with fewer screens is easier to keep opening.

## Why Salah Flow is made for reverts

The hardest part of the first months isn't learning the prayer, it's believing you're getting anywhere. Salah Flow is built around that. Every prayer you mark fills in a little more of your heatmap calendar, so after a few weeks you can *see* your salah growing: two prayers a day becoming three, then five. Trends for each week, month and year show the shape of it, and each prayer has its own streak, so a strong Fajr week counts even if Isha is still a struggle. Late prayers are marked as late, not as failures, so the picture is honest and still encouraging.

It's also calm. No feeds, no adverts, no wall of features to learn: just your five prayers, in a design we made to settle you before you pray.

## What Salah Flow does

- **Logs each of the five prayers** as on time, late, in jama'ah, or during menstruation, so the record matches your day.
- **Shows your salah growing**: a heatmap calendar (month, quarter or year, Hijri too), Trends for each week, month and year, and a streak for each prayer.
- **Lives on your Home Screen**: widgets let you mark a prayer without opening the app, and your Lock Screen shows the next one.
- **Can show you the whole day**, if you'd like: the times between the prayers too, such as Duha and the last third of the night. It's a gentle way to learn the rhythm of a Muslim's day.
- **Works out prayer times from your location**, with multiple calculation methods, and has a Qibla compass for the direction of prayer.
- **Sends adhan alerts** when it's time to pray, with themes to make it feel like yours.
- **Is designed to be accessible**: dyslexia-friendly fonts and layouts, and colour-blind-safe design.
- **Has a menstruation mode made with sisters in mind**: switch it on once and the prayers that come due are marked as excused for you, and your streaks carry on. For a new Muslim sister still learning the rules, it takes one worry away.
- **Needs no account.** Open it and start; an account is optional and only syncs your prayers across your devices.
- **Costs nothing, ever.** Every feature is free. Donations are optional and change nothing in the app.
- **Works offline**, with your prayers stored on your phone.
- **Keeps your data yours.** It is never used for advertising and never sold or shared, and you can access, correct, delete or export it at any time.

Getting started takes less than a minute, and there's no account to create: download it from the App Store, allow your location so the prayer times are right, and start marking your prayers. If you later want your prayers synced across your devices, you can add an account with your Apple ID or email.

## What it doesn't do

- **It doesn't teach the prayer.** There are no step-by-step lessons, audio of the recitation, or Arabic with transliteration. Our blog has a gentle [guide to starting salah](/blog/how-to-start-praying-salah), but please learn the prayer itself from people you trust.
- **It isn't a Qur'an or duas app.** Salah Flow does one thing, prayer tracking.
- **It is iPhone and iPad only** (iOS 15 or later). There is no Android version yet.
- **It is in English only.**

## Other apps new Muslims use

You might want a different app, or two apps side by side. Here are a few, described from their own websites and store pages in October 2026:

- **[Revertly](https://www.getrevertly.app)** is built for people who are new to praying, with a seven-day path from wudu to a full prayer, and Arabic, transliteration, meaning and audio for each step. It also has prayer times, a Qibla compass and a simple tracker. It is iPhone only, and its App Store page lists a membership that unlocks everything.
- **[Pillars](https://www.thepillarsapp.com)** describes itself as ad-free and privacy-focused, with prayer times, a prayer tracker, a menstruation switch and a Qibla compass. The core is free, with an optional Premium subscription, and it is on Android as well as iPhone.

Many new Muslims use a learning app like Revertly for the first weeks and a tracker for the habit that follows. There's no wrong way to do it.

## Common questions

### Is Salah Flow free for new Muslims?

Yes, for everyone. There are no paywalls, no premium tier and no adverts. We made it free because charging would shut out the people who need it most.

### Do I need an account?

No. You can start tracking straight away. An account with your Apple ID or email is optional, and only syncs your prayers across your devices.

### Do I need to know Arabic to use it?

No. The app is in English. Each prayer shows its name in Arabic script as well as in English letters, so you'll come to recognise them.

### What if I miss a prayer or pray it late?

Mark it as late. The heatmap shows your real journey, not a perfect one, and that's the point: you can stay honest, not discouraged.

### Is it on Android?

Not yet. Salah Flow is on iPhone and iPad today.
